THE IMPORTANCE OF WORKING WITH TEXTS AND USING CREATIVE TASKS IN TEACHING SYNONYMS AND ANTONYMS IN NATIVE LANGUAGE AND READING LITERACY LESSONS

Abstract
This article examines the linguodidactic potential of teaching synonyms and antonyms through texts and exercises in fourth-grade native language and reading literacy textbooks. Specifically, it explores methodological approaches to working with “Chug‘urchuq va kuz” (“The Starling and Autumn”), “Yurt bo‘ylab safar” (“A Journey Across the Country”), and “G‘olib chumoli” (“The Victorious Ant”) in M. E. Toirova’s Native Language textbook published in 2023, as well as “Toshbag‘ir” (“The Heartless One”) and “Yetti xazinaning biri” (“One of the Seven Treasures”) in the Reading Literacy textbook. The article outlines ways to develop pupils’ vocabulary and coherent speech by identifying synonyms and antonyms in context, distinguishing shades of meaning, editing texts for lexical choice, and completing creative tasks. It also proposes a set of sample tasks designed to extend existing textbook exercises, together with assessment criteria.
